It was my first pregnancy since I married him one year ago. My family members did not supported our marriage, they said I should not marry a poor man. I was already in a poor family, so why would I marry a wretched man and go into poverty again? They had questioned.

But I went ahead and married him. We love each other so much.

But why would he runaway when he heard that I had children? The answer was clear, he can’t afford the hospital bills not to talk of taking care of the children.

We had struggled to buy clothes for one. Unknown that it was going to be six.

My family members did not come to me in the hospital. Of course they’d warned me not to marry him. My mother was dead when I was very young, I know she would have had mercy on me if she were alive.

The doctor discharged me without collecting a dime, it was a government hospital. I thanked them profusely and left for home.

My husband came back the following day and I was glad he was back.

“I can’t leave you my wife, I was scared when I heard that they were six. Please let me see my kids” he said soberly and went ahead to see and touch them for the first time.

Later that night, my husband left the house with two of our kids and came back the next day with 2 million naira. He had sold them.

I cried and cried but he consoled me. I didn’t know how I gave in to his ideas and we sold the rest of them.

We were arrested few weeks after.

I don’t know what the judge would say but I know it would be a bad judgement.

May God forgive my husband and I.

May our kids forgive us for selling them out for money, I pray they’re in good hands.
